Yarn Yoshi Amiibo: The Day That Nintendo Introduced Amigurumi Figures

We are very close to celebrating the 10th anniversary of the announcement of Yarn Yoshi amiibo, or the day that Nintendo introduced amigurumi figures.

The concept is simple, and for those who are unfamiliar with that, amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small, stuffed yarn cute dolls.

The term itself is a portmanteau of the Japanese words “ami” and “nuigurumi”, which means crocheted or knitted, and stuffed doll respectively.

The practice of this wonderful creative craft became popular in Japan in the 1970s, where it has often been associated with the kawaii culture that emphasizes adorable and charming aesthetics.

Amigurumi has evolved from a niche Japanese craft into a global phenomenon, constantly innovating and inspiring creativity, adding their unique cultural twists and styles for more detailed and lifelike creations.

Amigurumi x amiibo

When those knitted toys-to-life were unveiled at Nintendo Direct (04/01/2015) we could discover the very first amigurumi amiibo ever, created by yarn and not in hard materials just like the heroes of Yoshi’s Wooly World.

The first wave of Yarn Yoshi Amiibo presents three colorful variants of Yoshi: green, pink and light blue.

And the yarn family grew up i with a new member n August 2015 , introducing the biggest amiibo ever,  Mega Yarn Yoshi

We had to wait until 2017, when Yoshi’s Woolly World was ported to Nintendo 3DS, to see the last knitted amiibo until now, Poochy.

Besides,it is relevant o highlight the limited editions released in Japan and Australia, which include Pink Yarn Yoshi, Yarn Poochy and Yoshi’s Woolly World for Nintendo 3DS.

No matter if you are completionists or not, those exclusive sets are a must-have,  and we should have them in our collections because they are simply awesome.

It would be great to see more adorable yarn amiibo figures in the future, but the truth is we don’t know what will happen,

Until then don’t try to resist the cuteness of the existing ones.
