The Trade War Threatens Amiibo Retail Prices

Everything suggests that the trade war threatens amiibo retail prices in United States in the middle term.

As we could see a few weeks ago, one of the early retailers to announce the price of the upcoming amiibo figures from The legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Street Fighter 6 was Best Buy.

Initially Best Buy had announced for the wave from Zelda a retail price of US$19.99 per unit and US$29.99 for the toys-to-life from Capcom.

Last week GameStop announced on its site that the prices for those figures would be US$29.99 and US$39.99 respectively, creating uncertainty on the amiibo fans.

However, today Walmart and Best Buy have updated their prices, to US$29.99 and US$39.99, confirming the upward trend of amiibo values in the short term.

After checking other overseas regions, pointing Japan and Australia, they keep the initial increase of value for the new amiibo figures, but the values don’t have changed during the last days.

So, we can confirm that the trade war threatens amiibo retail prices in United States and the rest of the countries that depends directly on the North American giant, particularly concerning the Central and South America regions as well.

In this context, we must not forget small businesses, because the upcoming and new amiibo figures could reach US$50.00 per unit.

I don’t know if this situation would affect the secondary market right now, but it would be possible, and we could see an increase in values in the collecting market too.

It is too soon to think of a decrease in price in the middle term, and only time will tell, but sadly, we must prepare our wallets because the market trend really doesn’t look good.

The Corgi Model Club increased its prices by a level that will kill all interest (my assumption).
