Nintendo of Japan recently revealed on its official website that Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will feature amiibo support when it arrives on Nintendo Switch 2.
According to the information currently available, players can scan both select amiibo figures and amiibo cards. Nintendo has confirmed compatibility with the Super Smash Bros. versions of Terry Bogard and Ken, while amiibo card support covers cards featuring Ken, Chun-Li, Terry, and Mai from the Street Fighter 6 amiibo Card Starter Set and Booster Pack.
While this compatibility is interesting on its own, the timing is what makes the announcement especially intriguing.
Could SNK Release Its First amiibo?
With the game’s release just days away, any surprise amiibo reveal would instantly become one of the biggest stories in the collecting community. More importantly, it would mark the first time SNK has released an amiibo as a third-party publisher.
And honestly, the possibilities are hard to ignore.
Rock Howard would be an obvious candidate, a new Terry Bogard amiibo would likely be welcomed by collectors, and even Kain R. Heinlein could make for a fantastic addition if Nintendo and SNK decided to expand the roster.
Reina Joins the Fight
SNK added even more fuel to the speculation this weekend by confirming that Reina, the popular fighter from the Tekken franchise, will join Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves as DLC this December. The crossover appeal of the game keeps growing—and so does the potential for amiibo-related surprises.
What Could This Mean for amiibo on Switch 2?
Could this be the first step toward Fatal Fury earning its own dedicated line in the amiibo lineup?
Right now, nobody knows for sure. We might see a brand-new figure, a future collaboration, or even a character reveal in the next Super Smash Bros. title. But with confirmed amiibo support and Nintendo double-downing on Switch 2 compatibility, the discussion feels more relevant than ever.
One thing seems clear: Nintendo continues to view amiibo as an important part of the Switch 2 ecosystem, and we wouldn’t be surprised if a few more announcements arrive before the end of the year.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22.
