It’s been exactly ten years since the official release of amiibo, and many things have happened since then.
During these years, amiibo has become the toys-to-life brand per excellence and one of the references in Nintendo’s portfolio.

The NFC market has seen how other brands such as Disney Infinity, Activision’s Skylanders, and LEGO Dimensions could not survive long enough, and that are now behind us.
Without a doubt, the only exception to this has been amiibo, which has been able to provide added value to the experience, versus being a single gaming idea.
We can really leverage Nintendo’s toys-to-life across a range of different experiences, from gaming to collecting.
Thanks to it, the universes of Super Mario Bros., Zelda, Metroid, Animal Crossing, Super Smash Bros. and other legendary franchises, have taken on a life of their own, offering us a singular and magical crossover.

Besides, from the collector’s point of view, amiibo gives endless possibilities away to the most enthusiastic fans, having a wide range of packaging variants, trading cards, miscellaneous items, limited editions including the most coveted grails.

The recipe created by Nintendo is simply perfect, and I don’t believe that amiibo will disappear in the middle term, considering the massive restock of this year.

It is possible that we won’t see an avalanche of new games with amiibo compatibility in the years to come, but I am sure that amiibo will still play an key role in the awaited Switch’s successor as well.
Let’s celebrate these ten years of amiibo, and I would love to celebrate its 25th anniversary too. Let’s see what the future holds.
