Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!, one of the most iconic titles of the NES era, continues to make headlines nearly four decades after its release.
Since its October 1987 debut in North America, the game has captivated players with its reflex-based gameplay and legendary final boss fight against Mike Tyson.
This partnership secured Nintendo’s first high-profile endorsement contract. When the license expired in 1990, Nintendo reissued the title as Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream, replacing the real-life boxer with a fictional character.
Interest in the classic remains white-hot. Just days ago, a rare prototype of Punch-Out!! fetched US$45,000 at Heritage Auctions.

In a move that delighted fans, the buyer donated the prototype’s data to the Video Game History Foundation, which released a detailed digital preservation of the cartridge for free.
The excitement didn’t stop there. Goldin Auctions recently closed a sale for a 1987 copy graded by PSA at 9.6/A+—one of the highest ratings in existence.

The auction lived up to the hype, closing at US$79,300 and setting a new benchmark for this 8-bit classic.
These milestones prove that NES Punch-Out!! is more than a timeless game; it is a prized collectible that reflects the enduring passion of the retro gaming community.
