Back in 2014, the first wave of amiibo left us a truly must-have, the Big Eyes Villager amiibo.
But why do collectors confer on it that title? So, let’s look back on the early days!!!!
At that time, the very hard to find of the new shocking toys-to-life were Marth, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer.

That trio earned the nickname “Holy Trinity” because each was nearly impossible to find at launch, driving collectors into a frenzy.
Their scarcity in retailers and the hype around Super Smash Bros. releases made them legendary among amiibo hunters.
And of course, their rarity made them the most expensive Nintendo’s NFC unicorns at that time.
However, after the reprint of the entire first wave in April-May 2015, their market values stabilized as well.
Beyond the design of the back of the US and the International cardboards, there was a notable difference in the re-release of the character from Animal Crossing.
The first edition mold shows Villager’s eyes unusually large and set farther apart than in the later reprints, giving it a distinct look.
From that moment the Villager’s first run became a unique variant called the Big Eyes Villager amiibo.
To distinguish between the first run and the later re-releases, enthusiastic fans renamed the reprints as Small Eyes.

Big Eyes VS Small Eyes
And there are other several variations such as the smile and the lower hairline, making the forehead seem more compressed.
Those differences make it a very collectible piece, and the best thing is that you can still get it for a fair price in the secondary market.
Whether you are a newcomer or a seasoned collector, the first edition is a must-have, which represents the essence of the early days, when the passion for amiibo started.
Old school collectors see the Big Eyes Villager as more than just a variant, it embodies nostalgia, rarity, and the thrill of the chase.
And as I say, there’s always room to add them, isn’t there?
