Undoubtedly, the Amiibo x One Piece collaboration delivered one of the most impactful compatibilities over amiibo’s nearly 11 years of existence.
Bandai Namco Games released One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X exclusively for the Japanese market, officially launching it on November 13 of 2024.
The passion for One Piece reached its peak in the Land of the Rising Sun, as the manga earned the title of best-selling in Japan for 11 consecutive years, from 2008 to 2018.
If we add to that the imminent launch of Nintendo’s new toys-to-life line in Japan—on December 6, 2014—all the ingredients created the perfect conditions for Nintendo 3DS’ new title to be a commercial success.
In adition, the promotional video for the game, along with other campaigns in specialized magazines, generated high demand, which resulted in its debut sales: 40,542 units sold in its first week.
Some of the early Super Smash Bros. amiibo figures allowed players to unlock special costumes for the Straw Hat Pirates, having an unique crossover with Nintendo’s amiibo figures and One Piece.

The question I’ve been pondering lately—especially considering the quality of the new generation of amiibo—is whether we’ll see something similar for the Nintendo Switch 2.
And I’m not just talking about compatibility, which is a given, but rather a new line of figures and cards based on a legendary franchise—not just One Piece—which would be a true hit and a reward for amiibo fans.
I’m confident Nintendo will continue to surprise us in the next months, especially thinking about the 40th anniversary of Mario, so a crossover release to coincide with this special celebration would not surprise me.
