Today’s Direct didn’t give us much clarity on amiibo in the short term—offering lots of speculation but little confirmation. Still, Nintendo just announced via the official Japanese Xenoblade site that the upcoming trilogy for Switch 2 will feature amiibo support.
That opens the door to possible new figures down the line. With Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition dropping digitally today, the spotlight shifts to Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, scheduled for July 30 and December 3, respectively.
Of course, as we’ve seen before, compatibility might only extend to existing Super Smash Bros. figures—Shulk, Pyra, and Mythra—as well as Noah and Mio from Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Another angle worth considering: new amiibo could arrive alongside Xenoblade Genesis, also revealed in today’s Direct, though that’s clearly a 2027 story.
Nintendo has been playing things very cautiously with recent launches, so we’ll have to wait and see if fresh characters join the Xenoblade saga in amiibo scale and form.
